What if Education Was More than School?
The team at Camp James strives to create a positive environment for campers of all ages and abilities. It is a place where children can be themselves – and it’s cool to sing loud and off key, nobody cares about name brand clothing, especially when covered in mud, and we all dance like nobody is watching.
We are an inclusive camp with children of different abilities, ethnicities, and religious affiliations. Unlike a neighborhood school or local sports team, our camp groups are made up of campers from all throughout and surrounding areas of Orange County. We support campers forming new friendships and are proud to provide them with teen and young adult role models. We discourage the use of “saving seats” as we are all friends here.
We seek ways to help our campers become better citizens of the world from participating in community service events, recycling, and environmental awareness, to saying please and thank you, the value of teamwork, and helpfulness. We seek to have campers experience actual successes, and therefore, increase their self confidence.
Over the past few years, our camp family has made it a point to give back to our community, our world. Some of the organizations we have helped raise money/product and awareness are:
The Invisble Children, The Africa Project, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Families Forward, Locks of Love, and the March of Dimes. In 2011 we raised almost $6000 for the American Cancer Society running the Kids Zone at Relay for Life as well as at our camp carnival week with our down pour derby races, sacred tree cookie sales, and name that chicken auction.
